Scene of the Lecture
Wan Xiaohua, associate researcher of Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to attend the "Baijia Forum" of our university, and gave an academic report entitled "Key Technologies of Efficient Biomedical Image Processing" fortheteachers and students. Representatives of teachersfrom School of Information Technology and some teachers ofrelateddepartments and students majoring in computer science and technology had attended the report with the total number of over 100. The meeting was chaired by Xu Yulong, Vice President ofthe School ofInformation Technology.
At thelecture, Wan Xiaohua made a report from the perspectives of image processing and reconstruction of biorefrigeration electron microscopy and the application of processing technology of clinical medical images. Aiming at the related technology of cryo-electron microscopy, Wan Xiaohua made a in-depth explanation from the basic principle, development and application background of bio-cryo-electron microscopy, the tremendous advantages of cryo-electron microscopy in determining the 3D structure of bio-macromolecule in the field of life science, automatic particle selection based on depth segmentation network, quantitative analysis of nematode electron microscopic image, and thecombination of such technology withcomputer science. Wan Xiaohua also gave a vivid illustration of clinical medical image processing by taking the actual breast cancer pathological image classification technology based on neural network and 3D cerebrovascular segmentation algorithm as examples. At the end of thereport, she also had an interactive exchangewith teachers and students.
In her concluding remarks, Zhang Ei, Secretary of the Party Committee of theSchool ofInformation Technology, thanked Wan Xiaohua for coming toour university. She said that the report was of great inspiration to the scientific research and personnel training of theSchool ofInformation Technology,itbroadened the listeners’ thinking,helped usidentify problems and gaps, and promoted the transformation of the scientific research work of theSchool ofInformation Technology. It is hoped that the two sides will further cooperate in academic exchanges, scientific research projects and student training.
Wan Xiaohua, associate researcher and master’s supervisor of the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, ismostly engaged in high performance computing and bioinformatics, especially in the related research of cryoelectronic image processing. A series of research have been made on three-dimensional reconstruction algorithm and large-scale image parallel processing. The related algorithms and software have been developed and been widely used in University of California, San Diego, San Diego SuperComputing, Direct Electron, National Center of Biotechnology, Tsinghua University and Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc. It provides key technologies for scientists to discover new biological structures. Up to now, more than 40 papers have been published in SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, Bioinformatics and other top international journals and conferences.
