The School of Nursing

 The School of Nursing was established in 2003, the predecessor of which was the Technical Secondary Nursing School of Chinese Medicine in 1959 and the Junior Nursing School of Chinese Medicine in 1993 opened by the first affiliated hospital of Henan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. From 2003 to 2015, the School of Nursing was administered by the first clinical medical school and the first affiliated hospital. In July of 2015, the School of Nursing began to be managed independently.

In 2003, the School of Nursing began the program of four-year undergraduate education in nursing (oriented in the Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine). The top-up program in nursing started in 2006, stopped in 2007 and restarted in 2016. From 2009 to 2013, the School of nursing undergraduates of nursing (oriented in English and Japanese) were enrolled. From 2012 to 2014, junior college students were enrolled. In 2012, postgraduates in clinical (nursing) medicine began to be enrolled. In 2014 and 2018, it was respectively granted as the degree accreditation unit of the professional masters degree and the academic masters degree in nursing. In 2015, it began to enroll the first postgraduates for the professional masters degree. At present, the School of Nursing has established a multi-layer comprehensive nursing educational system with different levels of students, including undergraduates with preliminary junior college education, undergraduates and postgraduates.

The School of Nursing has won popularity and academic status among nursing schools in Henan province, and even among nursing schools of the whole country. It has established a set of relatively complete teaching system, with clear and definite teaching objectives, distinctive features and fully equipped teaching conditions. In 2009, the nursing specialty was granted as the construction site of the characteristic specialties in the higher education of Henan province by the Education Department of Henan Province. In 2012, it was granted as the construction and cultivation site of the characteristic preponderant discipline by the Education Department of Henan Province, the characteristic specialty unit urgently needed during the development of the industry cluster district, the experimental unit of the comprehensive reform in Henan province. In 2012, the Practice and Training Center of nursing was granted as a provincial demonstration center for nursing experimental teaching. In 2012, Traditional Chinese Medicine Nursing became a key subject accredited by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China. In 2012 and 2017, Nursing Science became a key subject among the eighth and ninth batch of key subjects accredited by the Education Department of Henan Province. In 2016, the School of Nursing became the training base for vocational and technical (nursing) teachers.

The School of Nursing has 109 full-time and part-time teachers, including 42 teachers with senior titles, 57 teachers with intermediate titles and 10 teachers with junior titles. Teachers with senior titles account for 38.5%. There are 10 teachers with doctorate degree, 32 teachers with the master’s degree, 65 teachers with the bachelor’s degree and 2 teachers with the junior college diploma. Teachers with the master’s degree account for 29.4%. 13 teachers are master tutors. The School of Nursing consists of 1 department, 4 teaching and research offices (Fundamental Nursing, Internal Nursing, Surgical Nursing and Traditional Chinese Medicine Nursing) and 1 experimental teaching center of nursing.

 

 

Discipline Construction, Talent Training and Scientific Research

 

Nursing science specialty in Henan University of Chinese Medicine is a characteristic specialty in Henan province, a specialty related to one of the preferential developmental industries in Henan province, a characteristic specialty urgently needed during the development of the industry cluster district. There is a comprehensive reform experiment unit of the nursing science in Henan province, a construction unit of the urgently needed specialties in Henan province, one of the first batches of degree accreditation units of the master’s degree in nursing and a training base for vocational and technical teachers. Nursing experimental center is a provincial demonstration center for nursing experimental teaching. Traditional Chinese Medicine Nursing is a key subject accredited by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China. Nursing Science is a key subject accredited by the Education Department of Henan Province. Fundamental Nursing is an excellent course of Henan province, a provincial excellent curriculum resource. Pediatric Home Health Care is a provincial excellent open video course. 

Nursing Faculty is student-centered and teaching-focused, providing three-level training programs for undergraduates, undergraduates based on preliminary junior college education and postgraduates in nursing. Each level of training has clear goals within a complete teaching system. The training focuses on the proficiency in humanities, critical thinking, scientific research and lifelong learning. Under the guidance of Traditional Chinese Medicine syndrome differentiation, graduates are capable of working in various medical health care facilities, with great potential in career development. At present, there are 700 students enrolled each year. The employment rate of nursing graduates has reached 99.8%. The satisfaction rate of employers is up to 98%.

In recent five years, teachers in the nursing faculty have published 205 academic papers and 34 teaching and research papers, among which 2 papers have been indexed by SCI. They wrote or participated in compiling 77 textbooks, among which 5 textbooks are among the Twelfth and Thirteenth Five-year Textbook Publication Plans. They have obtained 42 scientific awards and hosted 6 provincial projects on teaching reform and research, hosted 10 provincial undergraduate teaching projects, obtained 4 provincial undergraduate teaching achievement awards, invented 4 patents and 23 national utility model patents.
