On the morning of November 16th, 2018, Ding Kan, the researcher of Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to visit our school's Hundred Forums. In the Second Reporting Hall of the library, he delivered a speech entitled Innovative Drug Research Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine Polysaccharides for representatives of the teachers and students in our school. Zhang Zhenqiang, director of the Research and Experimental Center and the Experimental Animal Center, presided over the report.
At the report, Ding Kan elaborated on the significance of polysaccharides for living organisms and its role in major diseases. He pointed out that carbohydrate drugs are currently considered to be effective means to solve complex and serious diseases because of their complex structure, active and extensive activity, and high safety. He believes that polysaccharide as one of the main active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine with the rich widespread activeness, is an important resource for innovative drug research. In addition, combined with his own research over the years, Ding Kan made a profound explanation of the research trends, development trends, existing challenges and research programmes of carbohydrate drugs research at home and abroad, which caused all the teachers and students to benefit greatly. That his report has opened up the academic vision of our staff and recognized the role of carbohydrate drugs in the treatment of major diseases, is conducive to the development of innovative drugs based on polysaccharides in traditional Chinese medicine.
Ding Kan, as a doctoral tutor, is considered as the researcher of the Human Sugar Group Program and the American Scientific Scientific Research Program for Functional Glycomics, the deputy director of Sugar Complex Professional Committee in Chinese Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology belonged to Asian Sugar Science and Sugar Engineering Association, the winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund. Meanwhile, he as the assessment expert of Drug Evaluation Center of the National Food and Drug Administration, works for some international sugar science mainstream journals, such as the deputy editor of Carbohydrate Research, editor of Glycoconjugate Journal, editorial board of Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines.
