The School of Basic Medicine was founded in 1958 on the basis of the Chinese Medicine Department. In July 2001, it was renamed as the Basic Department and then the School of Basic Medicine in 2002.
The School scrupulously abides by the instructions of stressing knowledge and morals, inheriting tradition and encouraging creativity. It pays more heed to education quality and staff building. It also guarantees the school administration and sticks to the student-oriented teaching principle. Thanks to great efforts of generations of staff, a great number of top talents specializing in Chinese medicine have joined the ranks of social medical services.
As the largest teaching body for fundamental courses in Henan University of TCM, the School of Basic Medicine provides 55 courses and 26 experimental teaching courses. It has a faculty of 134, including 72 with Master’s degree, 1 professor specially engaged by Henan province, 2 provincial academic technology leaders, 10 provincial backbone teachers, 8 academic technology leaders of Henan Provincial Education Department, 2 excellent teachers in Henan University of TCM, 4 doctor tutors and 58 master tutors. The school consists of 12 disciplines, including 1 key discipline of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 6 Henan province Key disciplines, 1 model experimental teaching center. There are also 7 disciplines that can confer Master’s degree, 4 provincial excellent courses, 8 university high-quality courses and 1 excellent teaching team in Henan province. The school is the first one among the China’s TCM universities that set up preventive medicine major for graduates (specializing in Nutrition and Food Hygiene). Now there are 293 graduates in the school.
In the past three years the school has initiated 67 scientific research projects, attracting RMB 2 477 000 investment in total. What’s more, the staff in the school has published 315 theses and 64 books successively.
Under the guidance of Henan University of TCM leaders, the School of Basic Medicine has obtained great achievements on all aspects. With the development of the society, it will carry forward the tradition and forge ahead into the future. It is surly to keep pace with the times and strive for new glories in the coming future.
