Henan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine started to cultivate postgraduates in 1979, and as one of the universities, it obtained the authority to confer Master’s Degree sanctioned by The Committee of Academic Degree of State Council in the first group; and is sanctified by the ministry of education to confer Doctoral Degree in association with other universities.
And now, after many years of exploration, reformation and construction, there are 4 first-grade disciplines and 23 specialties with the authority to grand Master’s Degree. The 4 first-grade disciplines are Traditional Chinese Medicine, Integrative Chinese and Western Medicine, Pharmacy and TCM Pharmacy; and the 23 Master’s Degree specialties are TCM Basic Theories, TCM Clinical Basis, Medical History and Documents of TCM, Study of TCM Formulae, Diagnostics of TCM, Internal Medicine of TCM, Surgery of TCM, Traumatology of TCM, Gynaecology of TCM, Otolaryngology of TCM, Pediatrics of TCM, Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Tuina, Basic Discipline of Integrative Chinese and Western Medicine, Clinical Discipline of Integrative Chinese and Western Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmacology, Pathology and Pathophysiology, Rehabilitation Medicine and Physical Therapy, and Ideological and Political Education. The specialties above cover 2 main categories (medicine, jurisprudence ) and 7 first-grade disciplines (TCM, Integrative Chinese and Western Medicine, Pharmacy and TCM Pharmacy, Preclinical Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Marxism Theory). The university was sanctioned to grant Master’s Degree to the equivalent scholarship in 1996 and entitled clinical medicine Master Scholarship trial unit in 2000. In 1997, it started to cultivate Doctoral students associated with other universities, and in 2003, it was sanctified by the Ministry of Education to grant Doctoral Degree with other universities in 8 disciplines and specialties (TCM Basic Theories, TCM Clinical Basis, Study of TCM Formulae, Internal Medicine of TCM,, Gynaecology of TCM, Pediatrics of TCM, Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Tuina, Chinese Materia Medica,)
Since 1979, the university has recruited 28 grades, 2 145 postgraduates and has granted Master’s Degree to 1 169 postgraduates (285 of them with Master’s degree of clinical medicine), and 185 the equivalent postgraduates scholarship. There are 929 postgraduates, 282 postgraduates tutors and 18 doctoral tutors. With comprehensive cultivating and degree granting regulations, the postgraduate education is more and more systemizing, standardizing and qualifying. Statistics shows that the rate of employment and Doctoral enrollment of our postgraduates is at the top among all medical academies, And they are mostly employed in the provincial clinical, educational and researching institutes, and many of them have already played leading or important roles in their own working positions. For the achievement of postgraduate education, the institute was awarded the title of the Advanced Unit of Academic Degree and Postgraduate Education of Henan Province in 2003 and 2007 separately.
